Many also oscillate which means that they can rotate from side to side and therefore fan a large area, this oscillating is great for cooling a large area but you can also fix the fan into one position if you wish to have the fan cool you constantly.
The tower fans are the best electric fans though as they have even more advanced and useful features. The fan is enclosed in the tower and so they are allot quieter than the standard desk top electric fans, they often have a breeze mode which is very quiet and ideal for night time cooling. The tower fans also often have a timer so that you can set them to come on or turn off at certain times of day and night and they also often have a remote control so that you can control the tower fan from where you are.
